Could it be that North Carolina is finally over its blazing love affair with Summer? Mother Nature, in an ironic twist, sheds her mantle of leaves while we cloak ourselves in coats. The leaves crunch underfoot as I walk my dog. The wind even sighs in relief. I trust that Persephone has settled nicely into her throne in Hades so we can get on with the business of Fall.
Fall escorts all of my favorite style and taste favorites.I embrace Fall more than any other season.

Remembering Persephone
1 ounce Makers Mark bourbon
3 ounces apple cider (Not apple juice!)
splash of orange juice
drizzle of honey
orange wedge
a few whole cloves
Plop a few cubes of ice into an old fashioned glass (old fashioned as in a Don Draper low ball, not antiquey and actually old). Pour in Makers Mark bourbon and apple cider. Add a splash of orange juice and a drizzle of honey. Poke a few cloves into the orange wedge and drop that in. Give Persephone a gentle stir.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to don some boots and a fluffy sweater and sit outside by the fire and thank Demeter for making a deal with the devil.

I’m not a bourbon gal but I am totally a Fall gal–I’ll give this a try! Actually I just bought a nice pair of boots at Old Navy–check them out the next time you’re out shopping.
