Since Deal has been an itty bitty little guy, he would tell anyone who would listen that his favorite food is mango. It must be the Indian half of him. Bird and Deal devour mango lassis, and ask for mangoes every time we go to the grocery store.
We are coming upon the beginning of mango season. I’ve been spotting Rubenesque mangoes in sunset shades of red, orange, yellow, with hints of key lime green. They are soft to the touch with an ever so slight give that makes your fingers want to squeeze harder for more. Bird and Deal split a mango for breakfast while I savor a whole one by myself. Lest a speck go by unsavored, I suck on the pit and lap up every last bit of juice, wincing as wasted drops dribble down my chin.
Bird has busted me sucking that pit while standing over the kitchen sink, a dishtowel draped on my chest as a bib. Since I’m the one who harps on the boys about manners, I’m sure he was alarmed by my decidedly uncouth behavior. But a juicy mango is worthy of less-than-perfect manners. Besides, I wasn’t at the table.
Aw, Man. Go!
1 ounce tequila (Patron would be a nice choice.)
3 ounces mango nectar
drizzle of honey
squeeze of lime
Fill a rocks glass with ice. Add tequila and mango nectar. Drizzle with just a tish of honey. Squeeze in some fresh lime juice and plop the wedge in. Give it a gentle stir and say ahhhh….
So what are you waiting for? Aw, Man. Go!

My youngest is like you with the mangoes, only he doesn’t bother with the dish towel. I do not care for mangoes in the slightest although I do really enjoy seeing them cut up in the fashion of your photo. They look very beautiful.
