It’s no secret that I have strong opinions about the state of our education system. In my home state of North Carolina our education system is teetering on the cusp of major meltdown. It’s in a state, I tell you. Teachers are an amazing ilk, and I think they deserve greater benefits and pays. We can’t bear more cuts to our education system. Our children, our future, deserve better. Education benefits all of society, regardless of their station in life. I don’t think it should be so politicized, and the concept of getting rich off the backs of children makes me seethe. I’m talking to you, Art Pope. I can’t help but think of a particularly poignant remark from a middle school teacher at a school board meeting I attended:
“When you cut teachers, it’s the students that bleed.”
Join North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) members from all over North Carolina to speak out with one voice about the devastating effects of budget cuts on our public schools and our communities. The ONE VOICE Rally for Public Education takes place tomorrow, Tuesday May 3 at 4:00 PM across from the legislative building located at 16 W. Jones Street in downtown Raleigh.
Please come out and show your support for our teachers and public schools. For more information about the rally, see the North Carolina PTA’s website at www.ncpta.org or go directly to the event’s website at www.onevoicerally.com.
See you there.
