My friend Jennie is fierce. She is fiercely loyal, confident, and passionate. She has fierce convictions and a fierce attitude. She has a fierce love for her family, and her love for her husband is palpable in the way she talks about him and in the way she writes about her grief in losing him.
Jennie is a a force.
She inspires me and makes me laugh in the snortling way that makes milk come out my nose. I had never baked a cake for my sons’ birthday until I met Jennie; she gave me encouragement and confidence and recipes.
Since Jennie’s husband died unexpectedly of a heart attack, leaving her with two daughters, 8 and 3 years old, she has been lodged in a hellish whirlwind that makes Irene’s huffs look like a hummingbird’s sneeze. Life insurance. Health insurance. Mortgage. Education savings. Everyday living. As you can imagine, the financial devastation of losing her husband adds to her stress. That is a laughable understatement.
Bloggers without Borders has rallied to create a fundraising effort of epic proportions. For those naysayers who think we social media types are anything but social are sadly mistaken. Bloggers, foodies, and friends alike have reached out to support Jennie. To some she is a friend, to others a a stranger, but to all an inspiration.
A simple click will help Jennie care for her girls while still working and cooking and finding her way.
Imagine walking in Jennie’s shoes for just a moment. If the thought of it makes your heart weep, I hope you might be inspired to donate what you can. Together we can help Jennie heal.
