Bird and Deal happily bounced to the bathroom to brush their teeth these last few weeks. They took the Listerine Oral Care Challenge seriously, and nudged me and Mac Daddy to remember to swish everyday. We are traveling this spring, and both boys are very concerned about which bottle of Listerine will fit in our suitcase. They are also fighting over who has to use the pink Barbie Listerine we got in the care package from the folks at Listerine.
I am anal about many things, oral care included. I still take a turn brushing my sons’ teeth twice a day, and they floss more regularly than I do. Ahem. It’s important to teach them that brushing teeth is about health and well being, not just one more thing I do to nag. Most adults are not aware of all of the risks of poor oral health. I bet more people brush their teeth for a fresh breath make out session than for their overall health. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I happened to have gone to the dentist yesterday. Apparently I have such crowding that there are infections in my gums that no amount of brushing and flossing will fix. A swish of Listerine helps, but not enough to make my mouth infection-free for the long haul. My mouth, people! Ewwww…. So much for that makeout session, right? I’m wondering why dental health is not part of my overall health insurance. I mean, my teeth and gums are part of my body, no? Apparently no insurance I have covers the orthodontics I need to fix my crowded mouth, despite the fact that there are infections and I have both dental and medical insurance! I’m flummoxed. It just so happens that I’ve discovered all this while in the midst of the Listerine Oral Care Challenge. Sometimes the Universe works in mysterious ways, I suppose.
Well, for now I am glad to be armed with my handy Reach toothbrush, toothpaste, floss (that I promise to start using!), and Listerine. Swish Swish.
Disclosure:
I received products and compensation from Johnson & Johnson and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the Oral Care Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own. And I didn’t make up the bit about the kid who swishes toothpaste instead of brushing.

Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my apple ipad and tested to see if it
can survive a 30 foot drop, just so she can be

has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
