Well, if you are here at 5:00, clearly the world didn’t end. Nonetheless, it’s a good excuse to listen to R.E.M. Are there people out there who really took the end of the world thing seriously? What time zone goes first? Would it be Big Bang the Sequel? I’m not clear on the details. I’m a girl who likes some facts so this whole end of the world business never took hold of me. No one could appease my inquiring mind so I just figured the world shall carry on as usual.
I knew 5:00 Fridays would come.
I was chit chatting on Twitter with my friend Beth (aka @HipMamaB) the other night. We were discussing our attire for the end of the world. Maxi dress and sandals or sweater and boots? We both aspire to go out with a fashionable (big) bang. We were unsure of the weather report so we decided to wear layers. That got me thinking about this week’s cocktail. Hmmm…hot or cold? What does one toast the end of the world with? A hot Toddy? Bourbon and ginger? Daiquiris? The marvelous Beth helped me out in a pinch. It’s good to know that even when the end of the world is looming, there are friends to help you out when they could be at Nordstrom shopping for Jimmy Choos or gorging on bacon cheeseburgers. Beth inspired this drink, a little hot, a little cold.
Mayan Margarita
1 ounce tequila (make it 2, you know, just in case the world does end)
juice of 1 fresh lime (You know not to use the plastic lime, right?)
3 ounces of sour soda (I’m partial to Hansen’s Key Lime Twist.)
1/2 fresh jalapeno, with seeds
1 sprig fresh cilantro
Add some ice to a rocks glass. Pour in the tequila and toss in the jalapeno. Give it a gentle stir to break up the oils in the pepper and knock the seeds about. Squeeze in the juice of one lime and top with soda. Plop in a sprig of cilantro just to make it look pretty.
Cheers to this hot n cold cocktail! Now don’t blame me if Katy Perry is an ear worm the rest of the day.

Is this a regular drinking club? Can I join? Do we have a secret handshake? I really need some other people around to satisfy my urge to try different cocktails.
