Mac Daddy and I went out for sushi last night to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We went to Sono, our favorite sushi place in downtown Raleigh where the vibe is sophisticated but not snooty. The cocktail menu at Sono changes frequently, and the drinks do not disappoint. I was already thinking about something blood-orangey when a colleague mentioned a sparkling sake. He told me that we absolutely must try this stuff. He was adamant in a jovial sort of way.
While I did glance at the cocktail menu (replete with a few delectable blood orange options), I closed the menu and ordered up some Zipang. Something sparkling is apropos for a wedding anniversary, no? The waiter sheepishly glanced down, avoiding eye contact, when he told us they were plum out of Zipang. Apparently a bar order had not come in or some such nonsense that was bursting our Zipang dreams.
Nooooo! My palate was at the ready for something cool and sparkling (to match my newly polished engagement ring).
Alas, our waiter delivered. He rummaged and found one last bottle of Zipang for Mac Daddy and me.
Zipang is the perfect drink as spring flirts with us. It is light, refreshing, tasty, and oh so sparkly. Lordy, I’ve got to find a case of this stuff. Plus, it’s really fun to say. Zipang!!!
