One of the things I hadn’t anticipated about having children was the mom friends I would make. I didn’t realize the companionship that would come with the sorority of mothers I would enter, and this became more apparent as my sons started school. It turns out that some of Bird and Deal’s closest friends are the children of some of my closest friends. That whole thing about the apple and the nuts tree is spot on.
Deal’s second grade class was particularly amazing this year. The children turned the thermostat in my heart to 110 degrees, and the parents were delightful and engaged. A banner year on so many fronts! I found new friends and continued my fan girl ways with old friends. Today I toast those fellow wipers of noses, packers of lunches, proofreaders of homework, cheerleaders of children. My friend Tammy gave me this recipe. I look forward to a moms’ night out where we can share a toast to the magnificence of motherhood mates.
Tammy’s Toast
2 parts vodka
1 part St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
½ part dry white wine
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka, St. Germain, and white wine. Shake ‘er up. Strain into a martini glass.
Cheers!
