The only thing blue in North Carolina right now is the sky. And our collective mood.
It’s been a heated time in North Carolina. Our bastion of progress has been crumpled into a sorry wad. The state GOP has set its sights on killing everything – education, access to healthcare, the environment. The only liberal thing happening in the state right now is the wielding of weapons. Guns now allowed in bars, schools, playgrounds! No typos there, folks. I wonder what it is conservatives are actually conserving. It’s clearly not the environment, education, healthcare, public safety, or dignity.
The General Assembly is taking a break. It’s hard work killing a state. The boys need a rest.
While they sail away on their yachts and puff their chests out in gross displays of hubris, we’ll be here toiling away. Preparing for next November can’t start soon enough. But this weekend, I’m going to draw a deep breath and remember what drew us here. North Carolina has a lot to offer. Don’t leave our shores and mountainscapes for bluer skies. We need people to stay and fight. It’s easier to fight and drive change from within. We need your voices of reason, progress, compassion, and grace.
I raise my glass to you. See you at Moral Monday July 29.
