I have a slight obsession with the fact that summer is ending. I’ve relied on the kindness of friends and availability of babysitters to cobble together my work schedule this summer. Colleagues think I’ve been half-assing my job, and my kids think I’ve failed at motherhood. It’s been a banner summer, y’all.
Deal and I had dinner at a friend’s house last night. It’s always a bonus to be friends with your kids’ friends’ parents. Quadruple bonus when you like both the mom and dad, right? Can I get an AMEN on that one? This particular friend has been a huge help over the summer. She texted me many a time saying CANCEL YOUR SITTER. She’s even taken both Bird and Deal, which is either insane or insanely generous, considering she has three children of her own. You have no idea what it means to have peace of mind that my kids are happy and cared for while I’m at work. I’m lucky to have wonderful sitters, one of whom I count among one of my most favorite people, and a network of supportive friends. In years past I was the one taking in friends’ kids here and there so I suppose this is the Universe tilting.
Today I make a toast to those sitters and friends who fed, carted around, refereed, played with, read to, cared for, and laughed with my sons all summer. I am forever grateful.
We had a lovely bottle of wine at my friend’s house last night. I’m not usually a rose girl because it’s usually too treacly for me. Not this stuff. It was delectable and ever so pretty swirled in the sunlight.
It’s only fitting this is a wine from Spain. We are surprising the boys with a trip to Barcelona next week. Shhh…mum’s the word!
