There are times that the only resuscitation that works for a mom who’s held her breath and counted to 10 one too many times is the company of girlfriends. This mom rarely gets that kind breathing room. As much as I love my family, sometimes my patience is so tattered and frayed that I need to reweave my spirit. Sharing spirits with spirited sisters is just the prescription my psyche needed.
I spent last weekend in the company of the marvelous Jennie and Gina. I didn’t plan on having alliterative friends but I rather like it that way. Also, if you mash up Jennie and Ilina you get Gina so were were meant to be. Amiright? They would totally nod their heads in agreement with this logic, which why they make for good company. I’ve been crabby, stabby, and flabby lately so I needed some time away with my girls. They remedied the crabby and stabby, but the amount of indulgence has definitely contributed to the flabby. Totally worth it.
It is pure folly and fib that blonds have more fun. I’m just sayin’.
Today I celebrate my gal pals. We through the screen, our fingers clacking away, and our eyes eating up each others thoughts, insights, and stories. Mac Daddy used to say Jennie and Gina were my imaginary friends. The concept of making connections online were still foreign then. We bonded over the written word and embraced like long lost sisters when we met for the first time. That was years ago, and our time zones separate us, but our words carry on. If you tilt your ears to the wind just right, I swear you can hear our laughter carry. Some might think it a cackle, and at our age, we might even pee just a tish when we guffaw. Totally worth it.
Totally Worth It
3 ounces vodka
1 ounce Chambord
tsp ginger simple syrup
splash soda
dash tangerine bitters
Plop a few ice cubes into a rocks glass. Add vodka and Chambord. Stir in ginger simple syrup (Add more if you like it sweeter.). Add soda. Gingerly add just a few drops of the bitters.
Laughter will ensue. You’ll feel your soul rejuvenated. Not even the whining and bickering of kids has burst my weekend glow. But I can’t promise what Monday will bring…

I’ve missed you both since the moment you left, but especially so today. One week ago at this time we were getting pampered, and preparing for lunch at Gramercy Tavern. I feel like the luckiest woman in the world to have you both in my life!

I could not have said this any better. I will tuck this post away to re-read every time I need a boost. That’s what this trip together was – good for the soul. And while time is marching forward on us I know that I’ve got it all locked up in my mind. Memories to last and cherish and a few hilarious photos too. I adore you two! Chin. Chin. >clink, clink<
