I like beer. Let me rephrase. I like good beer. This might be a taste of the obvious, but it’s amazing how many people don’t have discriminating taste when it comes to their brew. I don’t like run o’ the mill watery beer that you can find at a truck stop. I don’t like any beer brands that I could afford in college. I don’t like beer that looks like a urine sample. Call me a snob if you must. I do like beer that has a story. Bonus points for a plucky name or artistic label. I am admittedly no connoisseur but I do know what I like.
For starters, I like these beers and am thinking of adopting a couple daughters. I’m clearly naming them Matilda and Sofie.
One thing I like is Raleigh’s new Paddy O’Beers. I happened upon it after a meeting I had downtown the other day. It was still the coffee hour so I didn’t indulge in a beverage, though I suppose a hearty stout could have been an understudy for my daily black coffee. I made note and decided to pop in after dinner. And I did, family in tow. Bird and Deal bellied up to the bar to split an Abita root beer while Mac Daddy and I pulled individual bottles from Paddy O’s extensive selection to build our own six pack. This is as close to a six pack as we get. Cough cough.
Paddy O’Beers is a delightful little craft beer shop and tasting room in downtown Raleigh. The selection is marvelous, and it is a veritable mecca for those who love oogling labels. I just might make this my one-stop Christmas shop.
And I really can’t wait for warmer days to lounge outside and people watch from the comfort of the patio. Get it? Patio. Paddy O. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the real reason I love this place.
