I’ve been going through my closet recently. I realize just how sentimental some clothes can be. I still have a pair of jeans from high school. They are threadbare and tattered (and still fit!). I am quick to part with most everything else. It’s been a literal and emotional purge for me. The items I am left with seem to reflect the woman I have become an age 45. Clothes that now hang in my more than ample closet reflect a woman who has shed her girly trends and embraced her inner classic woman. I’m no longer trying to mimic trends and ape style icons that grace the covers of fashion mags that don’t even speak to me (and never have). The items in my closet that I have hung onto the longest, continue to wear, and continue to love, are those classic pieces. The white cotton button down shirt. The black silk pants. The cashmere black pencil skirt. The navy wrap dress. The brick red cashmere cardigan. I have decided that style and comfort are not mutually exclusive. I pride myself on living that daily, regardless the venue. Playground or cocktail party, you will find me comfortably chic.
So today, as a nod to the classics, I bring you a classic cocktail, of course with my own twist.
Greyhound with a Flowery Twist
1 ounce rain organic vodka
3-5 ounces ruby red grapefruit juice
splash of elderflower syrup or concentrate
wedge of lime
And ice to a tall collins glass and add the vodka. Top off with grapefruit juice. Add a splash of elderflower syrup. Give it a quick stir. Squeeze in the wedge of lime and plop it in to add a little color.
Cheers to all things classic.
