I don’t write about wine. I really don’t claim to know the first thing about wine. I just know how to drink it. I admittedly sometimes buy a bottle of wine based on the label or name alone. Just last week I bought a Malbec called Handsome Devil as a nod to Mac Daddy. It turned out to actually be pretty tasty. Well, at least no one at book club complained.
I also bought a bottle called Sea Glass Sauvignon Blanc. When we were in Italy a few years ago we found bits of sea glass scattered all along the shores of Capri and Sorrento. Some of those little bits sit in a blue and white porcelain dish in the boys’ bathroom (along with some shark teeth). The label of the wine reminded me of our trip, and so my fingers grasped at the bottle and into my cart and it went. Just like the Handsome Devil, this turned out to be a pretty nice wine too. My dear friend Jennie was just visiting (Our kitchen wasn’t christened until Jennie cooked in it!). We were enjoying some wine after a particularly warm North Carolina afternoon. These are the days that are Mother Nature’s gifts in the middle of winter here. Jennie remarked that she liked the wine and even got up from her seat to go investigate the bottle. I can say this is a win because Jennie has very discerning taste.
And because we’re about to have another weekend of warm temperatures before the next cold spell, I figured it’s a great time to share a bottle of Sea Glass sauvignon blanc with friends. Cheers to an early spring!
