Even at a young age I knew Debbie Boone was boring. I mean, really, is there anything more nauseatingly treacly than You Light Up My Life? It’s the perfect song to mock, and I have it tucked away for just when I need a karmic embarrassing moment for tween payback. I vowed to never be boring. I don’t believe ordinary trumps extraordinary, despite the rolled eyes and questioning glances such a philosophy invites.
Debby Boone would have been onto something if she revved up the beat and sang “You Spice Up My Life.”
Since I can’t strum a thing or carry a tune, I’ll save you from listening to my rendition of said fictional song. What I can do is mix a drink, so I’m bringing you my manifestation of You Spice Up My Life.
You Spice Up My Life
5-6 washed chili peppers, sliced in half lengthwise
16 ounces good quality vodka (I used Rain Organic Vodka.)
Put sliced chilis into a mason jar or glass bottle (I save Maple View Farm milk bottles for this very purpose.). Pour vodka over the peppers. Seal, tuck away somewhere cool and dark for about 3 days. You’re basically steeping the peppers in vodka. To serve, pour a couple ounces over ice. Plop in a whole chili for color. Sip slowly.
I assure you, even after a couple of these, you won’t hear me channeling my inner Debby Boone.
