Mothers are the chameleons in the wild world of parenthood. We change color like a middle schooler changes moods. Our hue flows easily from green when we envy the mom who’s got her act together to red when our children are disrespectful to blue when we realize how quickly our babies are growing up. Our roles change hues as we navigate our steps from role to role.
Mothers move swiftly from chef to cheerleader to champion. We are master schedulers, taxi drivers, teachers, Schneiders, and more. We can sway from nurse to advocate to volunteer to business woman extraordinaire. We go to bat. We champion causes. We discipline, tolerate, encourage, dream, hope, and wonder.
Mothers are chameleons of the fashion world, too. We can go from being chic to sporty to pajama pants comfy in the blink of an eye. We can get dolled up or dressed down, whatever the mood, and occasion, call for. We can stand behind a podium with aplomb or stand tall with our spouses at our side. We are are equally at home in a pair of kick ass heels or sneakers. Our hemline moves with our the barometer gauging our sass. There are times we want to shrivel and wither away. But then, as if by nature’s magic touch, we are boosted by a burst of new color that rises hotly in our cheeks and pumps through our hearts.
It is then we are reminded that children color our perspective and add color to our world.
