A storm is brewing. They call her Hermine. Every one of us sees this and thinks “Hermione.” Amiright? To prepare for the storm I made a quick trip to Ace Hardware. Lest you think I’m handy, allow me to correct you. The likes of Hermine in these parts require no battening of hatches. I am more of a checkbook chore than a DIY kind of girl. I went to Ace to buy silver spray paint for a rainy day project I have in mind.
I bought some inexpensive black frames to hold several fun postcards I found at an art shop in Wiscasset, Maine over the summer. I got the cards with the intent to frame them to add some oomph to my office. I am not a fan of the black frames, but I was a fan of the price. I figured I could spray paint them in a matte silver, hence my trip to Ace. I’m going to spend my Hurricane Hermine hiatus from housework to do a little office spiffying.
My local Ace Hardware sells a fantastic assortment of soda. I’m talking craft, small batch, not national brand variety. It’s the only place in town to buy our beloved Sprecher rootbeer from Wisconsin. Out of the corner of my eye when I reached for the Sprecher, a little caramel colored bottle with a zippy logo was calling to me. Bourbon cream soda. Yup, you read that right. Bourbon. Cream. Soda. And so I left Ace with a can of silver spray paint and a bottle of bourbon cream soda clutched in my hands.
4H – Hurricane Hermine Housework Hiatus
- 1 shot Makers Mark
- 3-4 ounces Fest Bourbon Cream Soda
Fill a highball glass with ice. Add bourbon. Top with bourbon cream soda. Give it a stir. You’ll want to dig right in so there’s no time for garnish. If you find this a tish too sweet for your palate, add less bourbon cream soda and substitute plain seltzer water.
Here’s to weathering the storm. Cheers!
