We should drop off our sons and daughters at high school and hope that the principal doesn’t call. Instead we hope that our child doesn’t call in frightened whispers from under a desk.
Our sons and daughters should go to school and try to snag a seat next to the cute boy or girl, not to sit near an exit.
We pull up to the school grounds to see police parked at each entrance, because we have a nation of lawmakers copping out.
Students in America should feel safe and nurtured at school, not enter its halls with a tinge of fear.
Exam season is here, but instead of studying, our children are tested in emotionally destructive ways.
As spring blooms unfold and the promise of the future opens up for our kids, they should be dreaming about what-ifs, not worrying about what if it’s my school today.
All around America we continue to have flags at half staff, thoughts and prayers, moments of silence, platitudes.
Only in America.
Life. Liberty. The Pursuit of Happiness.
Fewer moments of silence. More moments of action.
