I realize I’ve been waxing about school board elections for a while now. I can be relentless when it comes to spending my passion points. I am thrilled to report that Tuesday’s election results left me beaming. Christine Kushner won in my district (HURRAY!). Three other school board seats went to candidates I fully support, Keith Sutton, Jim Martin, and Susan Evans, leaving Kevin Hill in a run off election in a few weeks. I won’t get into what will happen to our school board dynamics if he loses. Suffice it to say that this man will be the voice and face and leader of the Wake County school board.
But I’m not here to harp on what could be or what has been.
I am here to celebrate what will be.
Our school board will take on a new perspective. This community is extraordinarily lucky to have advocates like Kushner, Sutton, Martin, and Evans represent all children in our county. I have faith that they shall bring new perspective, apolitical agendas, sound reason, goodwill, and thoughtfulness to our school board. In short, they all have heart. I confidently put our schools in their hands. Today I breathe a sigh of relief and I am grateful.
We can improve our schools together. We are poised to work toward solidarity and harmony. We are moving in a positive direction. Today I celebrate not a partisan victory, but a communal win.
Wake Up
Veuve Clicquot Non Vintage Brut Yellow Label champagne
splash Grand Marnier
frozen blueberries
frozen raspberries
Pour champagne into a champagne flute (Have I mentioned how much I dislike the champagne glasses that look like honeymoon suite hot tubs?). Add a splash of Grand Marnier (about a teaspoon). Plop in a couple blueberries and a couple raspberries. You’ll find that blue and red mingling together makes for a sparkling good drink.
Things are looking up, Wake County!
