There’s no need to brave the crowds and scrooges out there. So what if all shipping deadlines have passed? There’s still time to get gifts in time for Christmas morning.
This Holiday season, give the gift of an experience. I prefer to spend my money on adventures rather than things. Everyone I know has bulging closets anyway. Here are a few of my favorite experiences to gift (and get!).
Cooking classes – Whisk and Capri Flavors are a couple favorites in my neck of the woods. This is a great gift for couples or as a hint to give that certain someone a little nudge (wink, wink).
Skydiving – For realz. Well, indoor skydiving. This is a terrific gift to symbolically applaud someone who’s off to spread her wings.
Local food tour – Taste Carolina offers something for every palate. I bet there are similar options all over the country.
Hobby gift basket – So I lied. You do need to go to the store for this one. But I swear it’s easy. How about all the fixins to make a favorite dish, served up with a nice dish towel and wooden spoon? Or a basket of goodies for the reader (book, book light, slipper socks, bookmark, coffee mug). A tool box of basics for the future handyman in your life. For the cocktail enthusiast, throw together the Tequila Mockingbird book, Crude Bitters, and a bottle of local spirits (Topo, anyone?), and a package of cocktail napkins. You get the point.
An adventure or a new skill – Aerial silks? Check out Cirque de Vol in downtown Raleigh. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews of this place. Piano lessons? Drums? Banjo? Check out your local Parks & Recreation to find classes in pottery, photography, and a host of foreign languages.
Avoid the crowds, lines, and neuroses that go hand in hand with holiday shopping. You can find a meaningful gift from the comfort of your own recliner (well, mostly).
