I don’t want to wax about the state of the patriarchy. We’re smashing it slowly, and I swear, if I listen rrrreeeeeeaaaalllllyyyy closely, I can hear the creak of glass ceilings cracking bit by bit. For now, I want to celebrate the women who are making a difference, fighting the good fight in all facets of life, and kicking ass. These are the women who tell stories, feed the hungry, use their outside voices, share their talents, and lift me up.
The women I’m celebrating this International Women’s Day are my friends, my heroes.
I bow to you all. You make the world, and me, better.
Fellow mom friends who love my kids like their own and love me despite my shortcomings
Colleagues who are oh so smart, insightful, kind, and talented
Writers, storytellers, and poets who pen words that make me swoon, think, and imagine
Musicians, singers, and artists who remind us that wrapping ourselves in beauty is critical to the human experience
Doctors and scientists who are fact pushers of the very best kind
Elected officials who kick ass and show the halls of government that representation matters
Business and non-profit leaders who guide and inspire us
Activists and advocates who are literally saving the world
Educators who do so much more than teach and never get enough credit
Happy International Women’s Day to you, my friends. You make me proud.
